For those of you who didn't know that Chase went back into the hospital... please do not be alarmed. Chase has since been released and is doing great.
At around 4 weeks he started throwing up after almost every feeding and the Dr. thought it was due to acid reflux, we started him on an antacid. A week later we took him back to the Dr, he had slowed down in his weight gain and was still getting sick constantly. Not only was he unable to keep his food down he also spent a lot of time with tummy aches. They scheduled an ultrasound for the next morning on his stomach. It took the tech less than 2 minutes of looking at Chase's stomach to decide to go get the radiologist. Chase had developed something called Pyloric stenosis, a condition that occurs usually only in young infants. At the bottom of his stomach is a muscle that is supposed to open and close allowing food to exit once it has been digested. Chase's was not opening and had swollen so that every time he ate and his food would try to exit only to be forced back up. The only way to get it to open is through a surgical proceedure where they cut the outer part of the muscle so food can escape after being digested. Chase never left the hospital after the ultrasound but was admitted and started the preperations for surgery. He was dehydrated by that time so we had to wait a few hours for the IV to admin fluids before he could go to surgery. The surgery was done that evening and he was kept overnight so they could measure out small feedings and monitor his reaction. The next evening we were able to take him home. He is doing great now and we are so thankful to have found out relatively quickly what was causing him so much trouble. We have wonderful pediatricians!
